[The Uncertain] Four Seasons

On 30 May 2022, the island of Delos hosted, for the first time in its history, a classical orchestra in a symbolic international event. The European Union Youth Orchestra performed alongside young musicians from Ukraine and Russia, with soloist Diana Tishchenko, and was welcomed by Sokratis Sinopoulos playing the ancient lyre, evoking Apollo’s instrument and the island’s mythological heritage.

The central work is an algorithmic re-composition of Vivaldi’s Four Seasons, developed by composers, musicians, climate scientists, and computer scientists. It incorporates geospatial climate projections for 2050, translating environmental data into musical form (in the “Autumn” part), to reflect the uncertainty of the planet’s future if urgent action is not taken.

The event brought together music, science, mythology, and technology in Delos as a space for reflection on sustainability and shared responsibility. It was broadcast by ARTE TV, screened internationally, and live-streamed through cultural and scientific institutions worldwide.
